Women’s Basketball Trounces Redbirds Friday Evening

Five Bulldogs scored in double digits.

DES MOINES, IOWA – Five members of the Drake University women's basketball team scored in double-digits to help trounce Illinois State, 104-62 Friday evening.

The Bulldogs 104 points marked their third game this season scoring over 100. The meeting also marked the first a team has scored 100 points on the Redbirds since 2017, when Drake then defeated them 101-49.

Suzie Glazer Burt Head Coach Allison Pohlman said, "What an incredible display of Drake women's basketball. Our team's focus on making progress and developing our chemistry is evident and happening at the right time. Being in the Knapp Center and playing this well is really special for our team, especially with it being one of the last home games of the season."

Similar to the two team's meeting earlier this season, junior Megan Meyer put Drake on the board first with a shot from beyond the arc and Deanna Wilson put the Redbirds on the board with a layup.

The Bulldogs went on a 10-2 run over the course of the first four minutes, using the early lead to build momentum for the rest of the game.

The Redbirds found two of their bigs in foul trouble, Wilson and Lexi Boles, as they both recorded two fouls in the first quarter.

ISU also tallied seven turnovers in the first quarter alone. Their cold shooting was something that never got warm as they continued to trail the Bulldogs.

Going into halftime, the Bulldogs had a 29 point lead, with Meyer tallying 13 points and junior Maggie Bair recording 12.

With 6:54 left in the third quarter, Wilson picked up her fourth foul, causing the Redbirds to bench their starting forward. She wasn't the only one is foul trouble as the other two bigs found themselves in the same position.

Drake hit 12 shots from beyond the arc, eight in the first half alone. A total of six different Bulldogs made at least one three against the Redbirds.

Junior Sarah Beth Gueldner and Meyer each recorded three treys, to lead the Bulldogs from beyond the arc.

Meyer finished with 18 points, making it her 16th game this season to score in double digits and her 20th game scoring at least one three.

Freshman Anna Miller recorded her third career double-double when she grabbed 11 rebounds alongside her 14 points.

Freshman Katie Dinnebier scored 10 points, making her first three since Jan. 27 when the Bulldogs played at Bradley. She also tallied four assists and three rebounds.

Redshirt-junior Grace Berg recorded 10 points and four assists to add to the Bulldogs win.
