DADE CITY, Fla. — The Drake men's golf team won its opening round match over Loyola Chicago via tiebreaker and currently trails Toledo, 3-1 in the second round of Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play hosted by Ball State at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club after play was suspended due to darkness on Monday (Feb. 7).
Drake's first matchup with 4-seed Loyola went down to the wire.
Tim Lim played Devin Johnson of Loyola to a tie.
Jack Dumas scrapped back-and-forth with Loyola's Timmy Crawford before Crawford pulled away (2UP).
Lucas Scherf picked up the first point of the day for the Bulldogs over Zach Walsh (3&2).
Nick Pittman and Tyler Anderson settled for a tie as Ryan Magee edged
Silvester Tan (3&2).
Nikko Ganas forced a tie in the overall match after defeating Nick Bavaro (6&5). Drake took the match based on the total number of holes won and moved on to the semifinals against No. 1 seed Toledo, who decidedly beat DePaul, 5-1.
The Rockets got off to a strong start when Barend Botha topped Lim (3&2) while Pittman (3&2) and Tan (4&2) both battled but fell short in their decisions. Ganas won his second match of the day (3&2) over David Amm.
Lukas Clark leads Scherf 1 up thru 16 and Dumas (Drake) leads Jamie Tofte Nielsen 1 up thru 17 before play was stopped due to darkness and it will resume Tuesday morning (Feb. 8) at 8 a.m. before the final round begins.
