THE BASICS
The Drake University men's basketball team is playing for the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship as it gears up for a rematch against No. 4 seed Loyola on Sunday (March 6) at 1 p.m.

The MVC began selecting a Freshman of the Year award in 1986, and he's the third Bulldog to win the honor, joining Bart Friedrick (1986) and Luke McDonald (2001).
 
Drake has had a selection to the All-Newcomer team in four-straight years.

Garrett Sturtz's inclusion on the Most Improved Team marks the fiftth-straight year a Bulldog has been on the team.
 
WILKINS SIDELINED
Drake will be without the services of guard D.J. Wilkins, a member of the Missouri Valley Conference All-Defensive team, who suffered a torn ACL in the first half of last Saturday's game against Southern Illinois.
 
This is the second season-ending injury Wilkins has suffered in his career. As a freshman starting guard in 2018-19, Wilkins broke a bone in his ankle in the home finale against Indiana State missing the last four games of the season including the MVC Tournament.
 
Wilkins has started in a school-record 127 games for the Bulldogs, scoring 1,279 points. He averaged 10.3 points this season, while ranking second on the team with 60 three-point baskets.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Drake is 23-42 all-time in the MVC Tournament with its last and only tourney title coming in 2008.
 
VS. LOYOLA IN THE MVC TOURNAMENT & HISTORY AS NO. 3 SEED
The Bulldogs are 0-1 against Loyola, having lost in the 2021 MVC Tournament Championship to the Ramblers, 75-65. 

Drake is the No. 3 seed for the second time in program history and for the first time since 1986.

The Bulldogs are 2-1 as the No. 3 seed, having defeated Creighton, 82-56 and losing to Tulsa, 68-67 in the 1986 MVC Tournament.

VS. THE BRACKET
During the regular season, Drake was 6-2 against the teams in its half of the bracket.

The Bulldogs were 7-3 against the other half of the bracket.
 
WELCOME TO THE CLUB
Drake guards D.J. Wilkins (1,279) and Roman Penn (1,155) welcomed teammate Garrett Sturtz and ShanQuan Hemphill is recent weeks as the latest members of the 1,000 career point club (NCAA) this season.
