DES MOINES, Iowa – The throwers from the Drake University men's track and field team dominated the field in the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships with freshman
Anthony Barmes taking home first place after throwing 217 feet 6 inches at Drake Stadium on Friday, May 13. The Drake men's track & field currently sits in second place overall in the team standings with 38 points trailing only Illinois State (45).
Joey Harkins (204-6) finished second with sophomore
Ethan Marshall close behind in third (199-8) while freshman
Adam Phillips snagged fourth (197-2). Rounding out the day for Drake was sophomore
Austin Jentz who ended the day in 12th place after throwing 174-11.
Nearly a month after breaking his own program record, Barmes set a new personal best by more than ten feet. The mark also set a meet record. He took first place after throwing over 61 feet in the first round and never looked back.
Harkins also broke his personal best of 200-10 by four feet (204-10). After throwing 195 feet in the first round, Harkins would find his stride going off for over 200ft in every throw after that, leaving his best throw for the last round.

Katelyn Williams finished fifth in the women's hammer throw by tossing 188 feet to secure four points. Freshman
Centaine Noom-Duckworth rounded out the day as one of only two freshmen to finish in the top-ten with a throw of 176-5.
In the men's javelin throw, Bulldog junior
Will Tsai made noise by throwing 192-11 to earn a bronze medal. Tsai just missed his personal best by a little over one foot. Tsai bounced back with his best throw of the day in the fifth round on his way to capturing third. Marshall finished 12th for by registering a throw of 143-3.
Issac Basten qualified for Sunday's men's 1500-meter run final with a time of 3:57.85. On the women's side,
Emilie Meyer was one of only two freshmen to qualify for the 1500m finals finishing with a time of 4:34.37.
Day two of the MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will begin at 10 a.m. with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.
