DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Drake University softball team fell to Iowa State, 9-0, in the two teams second meeting of the season. When the two teams met earlier this season, Drake came out on top 7-6. 

The Cyclones took the early lead after Angelina Allen hit a solo home run to give ISU a 1-0 lead. Kasey Simpson later hit a two RBI home run in the top of the first to increase the Cyclones lead to 3-0. 

The Bulldogs attempted to get a runner in scoring position throughout the evening. Carey Koenig was the lone Bulldog to get on base. 

In the bottom of the third, Emily Valtman slammed a ball to right field that fell just in front of the wall. Milaysia Ochoa grabbed the ball before it hit the ground to get the third out of the inning. 

Left fielder MaKayla Rice caught a number of fly balls against the Cyclones, two of which prevented them from scoring. Skylar Rigby tallied four putouts in her four innings behind the plate. 

Paige Bedsworth started in the circle for the Bulldogs before moving to second base. Mackenzie Hupke came in for relief and recorded four strikeouts in her three innings in the circle. She now leads the Bulldog pitchers with 72 strikeouts this season. 

Drake returns to Buel Field on Friday May 6 to face Missouri State starting at 12pm.
