ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Drake women's soccer team had three student-athletes selected to the Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Team, the league announced on Tuesday, Aug. 16. Junior midfielder Lily Overstreet, junior forward Emma Nagel and sophomore midfielder Makenna Shepard all earned a spot on the conference's Preseason Team as determined by MVC coaches. 

A local product from West Des Moines, Overstreet helped the Bulldogs post nine shutouts during the 2021 campaign. Nagel leads all Drake returners in scoring from a season ago when she delivered four goals (three game winners) and four assists. Shepard, from Council Bluffs, Iowa, is coming off of a stellar freshman season with three goals and a pair of assists. 

The Bulldogs were predicted to finish fourth in the MVC preseason coaches poll with 81 points while Valparaiso was picked to win The Valley with 116 points. 

Drake women's soccer will open the 2022 regular season at Kansas City on Thursday evening (Aug. 18) before playing host to Saint Louis on Sunday, Aug. 21 at Drake Stadium in its home opener at 1 p.m.
