Track and Field Drake Athletic Communications

Track & Field Welcomes 11 Total Newcomers

Nine student-athletes join the men's team while Drake women's track & field adds two in a signing class balanced with freshmen and transfers.

Drake track & field and cross country head coach Jay Koloseus welcomed 11 student-athletes to the program for the 2022-23 season.
 
Men's Track & Field Newcomers
NCAA All-American Nate Osterstock transfers in from Southern Utah University, where he was a sub-4 miler and logged a 13:33 5k time. Kristian Lodholz is an incoming freshman from Maple Grove High School in Minnesota and owns some of the fastest times in the land of 10,000 lakes (10.81 for 100m and 21.70 for 200m this past spring).
 
Aidan Simon continues a Drake legacy as his father was distance runner for Drake. Simon arrives from Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois and has a 4:17 mile PR. Hayden Cross is a talented sprinter from Saint Joseph, Mo., where he prepped at Bishop LeBlond High School with PRs of 22.40 for 200m and 50.35 for 400m.
 
Another NCAA All-American (Division-II), Seth Simonson joins the Bulldogs from Nebraska-Kearney as a graduate transfer with an 800m best of 1:50.
 
Local product from Dallas Center-Grimes Aidan Ramsey dominated the Hawkeye state last year. He won the Drake Relays boys high school 3200m in sub nine minutes and also took first in the 1600m. Ramsey wasn't done in 2022, winning four events at the Iowa state championship this spring (3200m, 1600m, Sprint Medley Relay and 800m).
 
Anthony Mootry is another Illinois native becoming a Drake Bulldog. Hailing from Flossmoor, Ill., Mootry is a 200/400m and relay specialist. He has run his best times in the open 400m of 54.20 and 24.02 in the 200m event. Juan Trasobares of Zaragoza, Spain is fresh off a runner-up finish at the Spanish u20 championships in July with a time 1500m time of 3:48. Trasobares has won a Spanish cross country national championship. 
 
Drake football and track & field dual sport athlete Cooper Cerese was one of the top throwers in Illinois in 2022 where he won his sectional championship this spring with a shot put of 59' 3".
 
Women's Track & Field Newcomers
Hannah Behunin arrives to Des Moines from Wyoming by way of Northern Arizona University with a 4:46 mile PR and a personal best of 4:24 in the 1500m. Katherine Lawson continues the Australia to Drake pipeline and has run 4:40 in the 1500m and 10:02 in the 3k. 
 
The Drake cross country program will open the season on Friday, Sept. 2 at the Oz Memorial hosted by Minnesota.
