WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – On a beautiful day, the Drake men's golf team wrapped up hosting the 2022 Zach Johnson Invitational at Glen Oaks Country Club on Tuesday, Sept. 27. The Bulldogs (305-303-291-899) finished in 10
th place as a team.
"The weather was amazing today," head coach
Matt Lewis said. "It's a day we want to bottle up and have for the rest of the year as far as weather is concerned. It takes a lot of work and a lot of manpower to run an event. I thought we bounced back and played better today. We eliminated the big numbers that were an issue for us yesterday."
The Drake Lineup
Silvester Tan (71-72-73-216) finished in 14
th place overall after a +3 performance.
Nikko Ganas (75-75-73-223) ended up in a tie for 28
th place.
Freshman
Cale Leonard (79-78-71-228) completed his first Zach Johnson Invitational with a collegiate career-low of 71 in the final round.
Shayne Patel (80-79-74-233) bettered his second round score by five strokes in the third round.
Nick Pittman (83-78-77-238) rounded the Drake lineup.
Leonard led Drake with four birdies on day two while
Jack Dumas, Tan and Ganas all sank three birdies in the final round.
Individuals
The Bulldogs have three players competing as individuals. The best score from a player wearing a Drake polo was a 70 (-1) by Dumas (78-74-70-222) in round three.
Nate Spear (78-77-75-230) wrapped up his collegiate debut displaying constant improvement while
Lucas Scherf (79-81-74-234) bounced back in the final round of his last Zach Johnson Invitational.
The Field
North Dakota State (277-283-280-840) fended off a furious comeback from Iowa State (282-289-271-842) to claim the team title.
Valparaiso's Anthony Delisanti turned in a school record 64 (-7) across the final 18 holes for a three round score of 202 (-11) to earn medalist honors.
Drake men's golf will not compete again until the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational hosted by Wichita State Oct. 10-11.
