MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, Minn. – Bringing the best of college football to the region's premier sports and entertainment venue, the Minnesota Twins, South Dakota State University and Drake University announced that the Bulldog football team will play the Jackrabbits at Target Field on September 16.
"For the second year in a row, we will go toe to toe with the defending FCS national champions," Drake football head coach
Todd Stepsis said. "While we've always enjoyed the great atmosphere and first-class treatment from South Dakota State in Brookings, to have the opportunity to experience competing against the best of the best in a venue like Target field will be something our team will never forget. I can't wait for them to hear the news along with our families, alumni, and fans in the Twin Cities."
The contest will mark the third college football game in the 14-year history of the Twins' home ballpark, and the second NCAA Division I contest.
"We're excited to have the Drake football team compete against the reigning FCS national champions in a truly unique environment like Target Field," Drake Director of Athletics Brian Hardin said. "Minneapolis and St. Paul combine to make the third-largest Drake alumni base and I know we will have plenty of Bulldogs fans excited for this game. I want to thank the Minnesota Twins organization and South Dakota State for the terrific opportunity."
Kickoff time and ticket information, including availability and on-sale date, will be announced in the coming weeks.
South Dakota State finished the 2022 campaign with a 14-1 record and the program's first-ever national title, capped by a victory over North Dakota State University in the FCS Championship Game on January 8, 2023.
The Bulldogs concluded the 2022 season with the momentum of a three-game win streak.
Drake football's full schedule will be officially released at a later date.
