Women's Soccer Preview: Murray State & Belmont

Drake women's soccer will end the regular season with two crucial road games.

Quick Kicks
-The first-place Bulldogs will round out the regular season portion of their schedule with two road matches starting at Murray State in a Thursday matinee at 3 p.m. before heading to Nashville for a 12 p.m. kickoff against Belmont.
-Drake women's soccer won its Mediacom Stadium debut, 1-0 over Evansville on Sunday, Oct. 15 to extend its unbeaten streak to five games.
-10 wins are Drake's most victories since the 2017 Bulldogs won 13 matches.
-Drake women's soccer has won at least 10 games for the 10th time in program history.
-Six conference wins tie Drake's program record for MVC wins (Drake went 6-0-1 in 2017).
-Drake has posted eight shutouts this season (seven shutout wins).
-Three goals in the 3-0 win at Illinois State on Oct. 12 are the most Drake has scored in conference play this season. The victory was also the Bulldogs' first true road win since Aug. 20 at Green Bay.
-Layla Kelbel was named MVC Player of the Week on Oct. 17 and has scored a goal in  back-to-back matches. After the game-winner against Evansville, Kelbel is tied for ninth in the MVC in goals (5) and is seventh in points (13).
-Angela Gutierrez picked up her fourth MVC Freshman of the Week honor this season, scoring her fourth goal of the year at Illinois State last Thursday. She also tallied her team-best fourth assist on the year to set up the game-winner over Evansville. Her four assists tied for third in the MVC.
-Emma Nagel is 4-for-4 on penalty kick attempts this season and is tied for the second in the MVC for goals scored (7) and ranks second in the conference in points (17).
-Drake had a 12-match scoring streak from Aug. 18-Sept. 28, the second longest in program history as the program record for consecutive games scored is a whopping 19 games from Step. 5, 2004-Aug. 26, 2005.

Scouting Murray State
Murray State enters the final week of play with a 5-7-4 overall record and a 3-1-4 mark in conference play.
 
Sophomore midfielder Mary Hardy leads the Racers' attack with six goals on 24 shots on goal. Hardy is also tied with sophomore Sydney Etter with a team-high two assists on the year.
 
In goal, freshman Griselda Revolorio has racked up 43 saves, good for ninth in the Valley, in 10 games started.
 
Former Kentucky standout Matt Lodge is in his fifth season with the Racers, earning a 54-42-9 overall record at the helm. He took Murray State to the MVC title match in the program's first year with the Valley.
 
Series History vs. Murray State
Drake and Murray State have met just three times in history, with the Racers holding a 2-1 advantage. The two split the 2022 slate, with Drake taking the regular season match at home before falling in the opening round of the MVC tournament to the Racers.
 
Scouting Belmont
The Bruins enter the last week of the regular season with a 3-7-7 overall record and a 2-2-5 mark in conference play, partially due to a current six-match unbeaten streak.
 
Senior forward Maci Pekmezian leads Belmont's attack with five goals on 11 SOG this year. Avery Nowak has lent a helping hand, adding a team-high four assists.
 
In goal, graduate senior Sarah Doyle has racked up an MVC-leading 102 saves and allowed just 19 goals.
 
Kelsey Fenix Cameron is in her first season at the helm of the Belmont program, after posting a 50-37-18 record at Division II Trevecca Nazarene University.
 
Series History vs. Belmont
With Belmont in its second year as a member of the MVC, the two programs have met just once. Drake won the inaugural matchup last year, 1-0.
