MURRAY, Ky. – Drake volleyball (15-7, 8-2) displayed resilience in a five-set win over Murray State (12-7, 6-4) at Racer Arena on Friday, Oct. 20.
"Tonight certainly wasn't the best game for the Bulldogs," head coach
Darrin McBroom said. "I am really proud about the grit and tenacity our team demonstrated in playing through a very difficult and challenging situation. I am sure we will continue to grow from this. Murray State played well and pushed us to our limits."
Murray State opened the match on a 5-1 spurt and the Racers did not look back taking the first set 25-22 over the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs responded in the second set taking an early 4-0 lead following back-to-back kills by
Taylor Oberpriller.
Ashlynn Kuhn's spike down the middle extended the Drake advantage to 14-6. With set point at 24-18, Murray State rattled off four consecutive points before
Haley Bush sealed the set after an assist from
Madison Geise.
In the third set, Drake trailed 15-9 before battling back to tie the set, 23-23. Back-to-back kills from
Macy Daufeldt handed Drake a 2-1 advantage in the match. The Racers did not mess around in the fourth set with a decisive 25-19 result forcing a decisive fifth set.
With the final set even at 8-8, the Bulldogs ended the match on a 7-2 run as the victory was closed out by kills from Bush and Oberpriller.
Drake concludes the road swing at Belmont on Saturday, Oct. 21 with first serve at 5 p.m.
NOTES
- Haley Bush recorded a season-high 28 kills and her most since 29 against Evansville on March 7, 2021.
- Bush also notched a season-high 18 digs.
- Madison Geise distributed a career-high 38 assists.
- Macy Daufeldt registered a career-high 22 digs to pair with 11 kills.
- Taylor Oberpriller posted a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs along with six blocks.
- Drake leads the all-time series, 3-0.
