DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team improved to 7-4 on the season with a 6-1 win over Omaha this evening. The Bulldogs' marked their third in their last four matches and fifth-straight at home.
Drake dominated the match nearly from start to finish with just one loss in singles play. The duos of
Darinka Stepan/
Mille Haagensen and
Ines Stephani/
Oriana Parkins-Godwin gave the Dogs an early lead with a pair of doubles wins.
Stephani, the reigning MVC Singles Player of the Week, also took her individual match in straight sets over Omaha's Jessica Aragon. Haagensen, Stepan, and Parkins-Godwin also won their singles matches, all of which in convincing fashion.
"It was refreshing to start the match securing the doubles point," Drake head coach Breaunna Addison said, "And I think it was largely due to the great energy and presence we had today. We played with confidence, especially on the important points; and I think today was illustrative of the progress we've made this semester."
Next, the Bulldogs will hit the road for their final two non-conference matches. Drake will head south to the state of Texas for a two-match set at Tarleton State and UT Arlington from Mar. 14-15.
