Basten went on another late charge and narrowly settled for a runner-up finish in the men's mile final at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center on Saturday (March 11).
Basten finished with a time of 4:03.36 as the winning time run by Luke Houser of Washington was only 0.03 faster (4:03.33). Second place was the highest finish ever recorded by a Drake athlete at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The Buffalo, Minn., native earned indoor First Team All-American honors in back-to-back years after he took fifth in the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships mile final.
