MCALLEN, Texas -- Drake women's golf fired its lowest team round of the season at McAllen Country Club (par 71 | 5,951 yards) in the UTRGV Invitational with two rounds on Monday (March 7).
The Bulldogs (299-310-297-906) finished sixth out of 14 teams.
"The team had a solid outing this week," head coach
Steve Smith said. "Our first and final rounds were highlighted by solid play from everyone. It was awesome to see nine birdies in the final round. There were many season-low rounds for our players. I was very proud of all of them for being competitive."
Kristen Giles (70-82-74-226) rounded out her tournament appearance with a 74 to finish in a tie for 16
th overall.
Aayushi Sarkar (77-79-71-227) turned in her season-low round of 71 to end up tied for 18
th on the leaderboard. Freshman
Rylee Heryford (73-76-79-228) wound up tied for 21
st.
Abby
Marting (82-76-74-232) and
Amber Henson (79-79-78-236) rounded out the Drake lineup.
Houston Christian (282-285-296-863) won the event by 14 strokes.
Drake women's golf will return to the course March 27-28 at the Babs Steffens Invitational in DeBary, Fla.
