Drake Takes Game Two at Valpo to Clinch Series Win

Dighton shines at the dish and in the circle in Bulldog victory

VALPARAISO, Ind. – Drake (13-28, 6-13) continued their success on the road with their second win in a row against Valparaiso (8-32, 4-15). The Bulldogs defeated the Beacons 8-4 behind the offensive and pitching effort of Emma Dighton
 
Drake opened the scoring early as Dighton crushed a three-run home run in the first inning, driving in MaKayla Rice and Haylee Lehman. Drake continued to strike in the first inning with an Addie Lightner single that plated Aubree Beitzinger
 
After a four-inning Bulldog scoring hiatus, Drake scored three more runs in the sixth inning. Kristan Arias drove in Molley Hoekstra with a sacrifice fly, Emily Valtman launched a two-run home run to drive in Sami Miller and Dighton continued her impressive day with an RBI single to plate Lehman. 
 
Valpo answered with one run in the first and the third innings. Valpo also scored two runs in the sixth. 
 
Dighton and Lightner both tallied two hits on the day. Dighton finished the day with four RBIs. The offensive explosion saw six Drake players record hits. 
 
Dighton impressed in the circle, pitching six innings, and striking out six batters. She only allowed one earned run in her six innings of work. Mackenzie Hupke finished the game for Drake, striking out two batters in one inning of work. 
 
Drake will conclude their series with Valpo tomorrow at noon.
