PEORIA, Ill. – Drake softball reached their longest winning streak of the season this afternoon with a 4-3 victory over Bradley. The Bulldogs' (10-22, 3-8) win was their 10th overall victory of the season.
After two scoreless frames to start the day, Drake got on the board first with a double steal as
Emma Dighton nabbed second and
Sami Miller scampered home for the game's first run.
The Braves were able to catapult in front after a two-run fourth inning, but the hosts could not hold their narrow lead. Drake came through with a trio of runs in the fifth frame as Dighton drove in a pair with a triple and Skyler Rigby singled to bring Dighton around.
Bradley was able to draw within a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Friday's winning pitcher
Mackenzie Hupke came on to earn the save, her first of the season.
Dighton led the Dogs at the dish, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and another driven in.
MaKayla Rice also recorded two hits while Rigby was the only other Bulldogs to produce a score with an RBI. Dighton also earned the pitching win to improve to 4-7 on the year.
The Bulldogs will attempt to sweep Bradley with the final installment of the weekend series. Drake and the Braves will get going at noon on Sunday, Apr. 9.
