AMES, Iowa – The Drake University volleyball team (7-5) concluded its non-conference schedule with an in-state matchup at Iowa State (9-2). The Cyclones took care of Drake in three sets.
The Bulldogs came out with energy to start the first set. Drake rode three-straight
Kacie Rewerts kills and three-straight Cyclone errors to a 13-8 lead, their largest of the afternoon. Iowa State was able to return the favor, rattling off a 5-0 run of their own to take a 23-21 lead late in the period. Drake did its best to mount another short comeback, but the Cyclone offense was too much as ISU earned the 25-22 set win.
Iowa State was able to control much of the final two sets as the hosts win by scores of 25-15 and 25-18. The Bulldogs showed signs of life in the second and third periods, but lengthy scoring runs by the Cyclones provided too steep a climb and the Cyclones secured the 3-0 match victory.
Haley Bush and
Macy Daufeldt each recorded nine kills to lead Drake. Setter
Addison Beagle again lead the Bulldogs with 28 assists and added 13 digs while scoring the team's lone service ace. Defensively,
Taylor Oberpriller had four blocks while
Jada Wills' 16 digs was tops on the team.
Drake will begin its Missouri Valley Conference schedule next weekend with a trip to central Illinois. The Bulldogs are set to visit rivals Illinois State on Friday, Sep. 22 and Bradley on Saturday, Sep. 23.
