Women's Tennis Adds Kenyatte to Coaching Staff

Former Valpo, Big Ten standout joins Drake tennis leadership

DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake women's tennis has made an addition to their program with the hiring of a new assistant coach, Kweisi Kenyatte.

Kweisi's coaching experience has been primarily in the private setting with positions at the HEAT Tennis Academy, College Park Athletic Club, and Premier Tennis Club & Shops as a High-Performance Tennis Coach. He also served as coach and mentor to inner-city youth at the Harvey H. Barcus Detroit Parks & Rec department.

"I am grateful and excited for the opportunity Coach Breaunna Addison, Megan Franklin, [and Drake University] have given me," Kenyatte said. "I look forward to helping this already accomplished program achieve even greater heights."

A native of Detroit, Mich., Kenyatte got his start in collegiate tennis as a two-time letter winning tennis player at Valparaiso University. At Valpo, he earned All-Summit League and 2018 Summit League runner-up honors. Kenyatte then transferred to Illinois where he reached a national ITA rank as high as No. 16 and helped with the 2021 Big Ten Championship.

"I'm eager to learn under Coach Addison, further developing my coaching skills, and spreading wisdom through my experiences as a former student athlete at a Big Ten program," Kenyatte continued.

"I am thrilled to welcome Kweisi to the Drake Women's Tennis program," Head Women's Tennis Coach Breuanna Addison said. "Kweisi's wealth of knowledge and experience from formidable junior and collegiate careers will be a tremendous asset. His passion for the game and positive presence will inspire and motivate our student-athletes to maximize their potential."
