Drake Sweeps Bradley to Start 2-0 in Conference Play

Bulldogs to return home after 3-0 sweep of rival Braves

PEORIA, Ill. – Drake volleyball (9-5, 2-0) moved to 2-0 in Missouri Valley Conference action after a 3-0 road sweep of Bradley. Drake survived a few scares by the Braves to win 25-18, 25-21, 25-12.

The Bulldogs and Braves went back-and-forth in the opening stages of the match until a service error got Bradley within one. Drake rebounded with a 5-0 rally to regain the lead at 16-10. The host Braves were able to keep within striking distance but could not chase down Drake as a Taylor Oberpriller kill ended the 25-18 opening set.

Bradley controlled most of the second period and led as late as 19-15. A Bradley service error and tandem block by Kacie Rewerts and Oberpriller sparked a flurry of Bulldogs points as Drake closed the set on a 10-2 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Bulldogs rode their momentum into the third set, dominating the final stanza 25-12. Drake put together two separate 4-0 rallies on their way to their second-straight MVC win.

Oberpriller led all players with 13 kills and matched Zeynep Gur with two service aces to lead the contest. Addison Beagle spread the love again with 31 assists and completed her double-double with 10 digs.

Defensively, Kacie Rewerts logged three blocks while Jada Wills' 25 digs were the most in the match by a wide margin.

"I'm really proud of our team tonight," Drake head coach Darrin McBroom said. "We had to overcome some adversity and work through some things. Our offense turned it on and [Haley] Bush and [Taylor] Oberpriller played nearly perfect. Both middles contributed and a big shout out to Thea Rotto coming off the bench tonight and hitting .308 on her birthday!"

Drake will return to Des Moines next weekend for their first home matches of the season. The Bulldogs are set to host UIC on Friday, Sep. 29 and Valparaiso on Saturday, Sep. 30.

NOTES
  • Drake scored on six service aces for the fourth time this season.
  • Taylor Oberpriller was the only player with double-digit kills with 13.
