Women's Tennis Preview: Milwaukee & Marquette

Bulldogs seeking first win of the season against Wisconsin duet

The Basics
The Bulldogs women's tennis team will be seeking their first match victory of the season as they host a pair of teams from Wisconsin's Cream City. Drake is set to host Milwaukee on Friday, Jan. 26 before traveling to the Panthers' hometown for a date with Marquette on Sunday, Jan. 28.

Bulldogs by the Numbers
Drake began the spring season with a pair of losses, one coming on the road and the other in the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. The Bulldogs fell at Kansas State (1/20) and dropped their home opener to Wichita State (1/21).

The doubles tandem of Rebecca Ehn and Ines Stephani teamed up for a pair of wins in Drake's first two outings of the season. Darinka Stepan and Mille Haagensen went 1-1 in doubles action.

Stephani and Haagensen also picked up the team's only two singles wins in the top two positions vs. Wichita State.

Scouting the Competition
This weekend will be Milwaukee's first action of the 2024 spring season. The Panthers will visit Drake on Friday, Jan. 26 before taking on another MVC foe in UNI on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Nadiia Konieva, Evelia Anastasi, and Laure Razet headline the Panthers' returners as both were above .500 in the fall season. Kodieva boasted a team-best 5-1 record in singles tournament play.

Drake leads the all-time series by an 8-1 margin. The Bulldogs have won six-straight meetings since Milwaukee's lone victory in 2014.

Marquette also enters this weekend with an 0-2 record after getting shutout at Minnesota (1/20) and dropping a narrow 4-3 decision at St. Thomas (1/21). The Golden Eagles will take on Chicago State in the Windy City on Jan. 27 before hosting Drake.

Emilia Kojcic and Tiana Windbuchler earned Marquette's only doubles victory of the season in their match with St. Thomas. Kojcic also collected a victory in the No. 1 singles spot as Sarah Badawi and Andie Weise also gathered wins.

The all-time series between Drake and Marquette has been evenly played with a 3-3 tally. The Golden Eagles won the first three meetings from 2016-18 before Drake rattled off wins in the three most recent installments from 2021-23.
