Iowa City, IA. - The Bulldogs wrapped up racing in the Iowa Chase races today, competing against Northwestern Crew and Iowa University. Drake rowed in three head races, one for varsity eights, one for novice eights and one for varsity fours.
"We held our own," Head Coach Charlie DiSilvestro said. "I was very proud of how the team raced. They felt good about the day, and that's what we want. Fall racing is about improving every week and learning who we are as a team, and we definitely did that today."
The Bulldogs raced two varsity eights, finishing fourth and fifth place out of six boats. The first varsity eight finished with a 12:45.6 time to notch the fourth-place finish. The second varsity eight had a 13:33.5 official time.
Drake raced one novice eight, which finished with a 14:24.2 time in its race. The Bulldogs also raced three varsity four boats in the final race the Bulldogs competed in. Drake's first varsity four finished in fifth place at a 14:29.0 mark. The other two varsity fours finished in sixth and eighth place.
"We have three weeks to train for our final fall race," DiSilvestro said. "It will be nice to have a couple of weeks of uninterrupted training. Then we'll be ready for Creighton on the ninth of November."
