ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Senior
Addie Schmierer of Drake Volleyball was recognized for her work in the Des Moines community as one of 12 State Farm Good Neighbor Award winners this fall season, the Missouri Valley Conference announced today.
A native of North Liberty, Iowa, Schmierer has displayed excellence in the classroom making multiple Dean's Lists and President's Lists. She also has been named to the MVC honor roll for the past three seasons (2021-24) and has been a recipient of the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award twice (2022-23, 2023-24).
Schmierer has been heavily involved in community service programs during her time at Drake participating in volleyball and basketball youth camps, being involved in the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) at UnityPoint Methodist Hospital, and volunteering with Child Life Services at Blank Children's Hospital among other activities. She is also the founder of the You Matter Project on Drake's campus.
On the court this season, Schmierer has appeared in 18 matches recording two points with a pair of service aces to go along with two assists. Defensively, she has tallied 10 digs with a perfect reception percentage of 1.000.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition. The Valley will recognize 12 student-athletes three times annually (Fall, Winter, Spring), for a total of 36 honorees.
