ST. LOUIS – The Drake women's soccer team had five players placed on Missouri Valley Conference All-Scholar Teams, the league announced Wednesday.
Lily Overstreet was the lone First Team selection for the Bulldogs, while
Layla Kelbel and
Zoey Mahoney were named to the Second Team.
Madelyn Smith and
Avery Mertz earned Third Team selections.
Overstreet Started in all 21 games for Drake this season and was a 2024 MVC All-Tournament Team selection. She registered two assists being part of a Bulldogs backline that produced four shutouts and logged 1779 minutes, which was the second most on Drake. She was also a 2023 MVC Scholar Athlete Second Team selection.
Kelbel started 16 matches and appeared in all 21 games this season garnering an All-MVC First Team selection. The junior scored five goals this season, four of which came during conference play, which tied for 12th in the league and tallied three assists on the season, which was also tied for 12th in the league. Her 13 total points was tied for the 12th best mark in the league. Joining Kelbel on the Second Team was Mahoney who was also an All-MVC First Team selection. Mahoney scored one goal and led Drake with six assists in her sophomore campaign.
Mertz started in all 17 games she appeared in this season, scoring one goal and adding one assist from her defender position. Smith, an All-MVC First Team selection this season, led the Bulldogs in shots (40 and shots on goal (22). She scored one goal and recorded four assists which tied for seventh in the league.
