ST. LOUIS -- After helping close out a pair of wins for Drake men's basketball last week, graduate student forward
Darnell Brodie garnered Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week status, the league announced on Monday, Feb. 12.
Brodie averaged 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.0 assist across the two victories last week going a combined 13-15 from the field. He scored 18 points (6-7 FG) with eight rebounds and one assist in the 92-88 OT win over Southern Illinois on Wednesday. Brodie scored Drake's final 13 points in the 74-67 win at Bradley on Saturday, outscoring the entire Bradley team 13-11 over the final 7:19 of the game to end up with 19 points (7-8 FG) and eight rebounds. The Newark, N.J., native has earned the MVC Player of the Week honor twice so far this season.
Brodie enters the week ranked second in NCAA Division I men's basketball field goal percentage (66.1%). His field goal percentage last week tied for second-best in the nation.
Drake men's basketball will wrap up its quick road swing at Evansville on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.
