STILLWATER, Okla. – Drake softball finished up play at the Oklahoma State/Tulsa Invite on Sunday with a loss to Seattle. The Bulldogs' defeat was their second in a row. It marked the first time this season that Drake has lost multiple consecutive games.
The Redhawks were able to get into a groove after both squads worked their way through a scoreless first. Seattle brought six runs across in the second inning starting with an RBI bunt by Lily Garcia. Two more singles and a Drake error, one of three by the Bulldogs in the contest, provided Seattle with their other five scores.
The third inning was just as kind to Seattle with another five runs on two doubles, a single, and a passed ball. Drake was able to scratch across their two runs in the third as well with an
Emma Dighton single and an RBI groundout by
Addie Lightner.
Neither Drake nor the Redhawks were able to bring any more runs home over the final two innings as Seattle won comfortably, 11-2.
Haylee Lehman went 2-for-2 with a run scored in the Bulldogs nine spot to lead Drake's offense.
Carey Koenig scored the Dogs' other run and was one of four Drake players to log a 1-for-3 outing.
Starting pitcher
Jayme Scheck took the loss to fall to 1-4 on the year. She struck out one Redhawk hitter.
Drake will head to the Colorado State Rams Invitational next weekend with meetings against Idaho State, Maine, and the host Rams on deck. Play in Fort Collins will take place from Mar. 8-10.
