Women's Golf Registers Lowest Scores of Season at the Vaqueros Invitational

The Bulldogs continue to improve as the spring season ramps up.

MCALLEN, Texas -- The Drake women's golf team turned in its lowest scores of the year at the Vaqueros Invitational at McAllen Country Club March 4-5.

"We had a very good event," head coach Steve Smith said. "We made the most birdies (35) we have this year and had some personal best scores. Erika (Holmberg) was -1 with a 70 in the final round. Julie (Huggins) shot 33 for nine holes. I'm very proud of all of them."

The Bulldogs (294-301-294-889) placed seventh out of eleven teams while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (285-280-288-853) won the team trophy.

Amber Henson (73-73-74-220) led the Bulldogs with a consistent three rounds and placed 18th overall. Aayushi Sarkar (71-78-73-222) followed close behind after an even par opening and strong finish to tie for 21st.

Erika Holmberg (78-79-70-227) had the lowest round of the tournament for Drake in the final round. Rylee Heryford (76-73-77-226) concluded play in a tie for 31st on the leaderboard. Julie Huggins (74-77-79-230) rounded out the Bulldog competitors.
