The Basics
The Drake University Rowing team is slated to row against Creighton in a head-to-head tune-up duel on Saturday, April 27 at 9 a.m. The Bulldogs rowed against Creighton in the fall and lost. Drake fought valiantly last time against the Blue Jays, winning both novice boat races and the first varsity four race, but was edged out in the end. Drake will row two varsity fours and two varsity eights tomorrow.
Head Coach Charlie DiSilvestro on the Race
"We're excited to race over in Omaha, the weather is predicted to be nice. We had a good week of practice and things are coming together well, so we're excited to get a chance to get back out there."
The Race Format
Saturday's race will be formatted to mirror how the conference championship will be raced. All Drake boats will race once, and there won't be heats or semifinals.
DiSilvestro on the Race Format
"We're going to have to be ready to go right away, put it on the line and race hard from the first stroke, which is a great way for us to tune up for the big race because that's how the conference race is going to be formatted. It's going to be one and done this year, so they've got to be ready to go out and put on their best performance."
Knecht Cup Recap
The Bulldogs' most recent race was the Knecht Cup in Camden, New Jersey. Drake rowed on the river where the MAAC Championships will be held in late May and they faced conference opponents. The Bulldogs didn't get the result they wanted in the Knecht Cup, but they'll look to rebound against Creighton.
Up Next
The Bulldogs will compete in their final regular season race on Saturday, May 4 against Iowa.
