Omaha Neb. - Drake University Rowing competed against Creighton in a tune-up race this morning. The race format was one-and-done, which mirrored the way the MAAC Championship will be formatted in late May.
"The weather was beautiful today," Head Coach
Charlie DiSilvestro said. "We couldn't have asked for better weather. The team really stepped up and accomplished one of the main goals we needed to achieve to prepare ourselves for the conference. We wanted to row and finish the race with no reserves left. We wanted to allot their energy so that the last stroke they took was the last stroke they could take."
The Bulldog varsity four won its race, rowing an 8:26.6 time. The second varsity four finished second in its race, rowing against two Creighton boats. It notched a time of 8:40.3.
"The highlight of the day was the varsity four that won and our second varsity four that came in second," DiSilvestro said. "They each rowed really well and we identified a couple of things we're still going to work on this week before we head to Iowa, which will be our last race before the conference championships."
Both varsity eights finished second in their respective races. The first varsity eight finished with a 7:17.8 time and the second varsity eight finished with a 7:50.5 time.
