ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Sophomore infielder Abby Martin put together a superb three-game stretch as the Bulldogs took a road series at UIC over the weekend. Martin led the Bulldog offense and was rewarded for her efforts at the MVC Newcomer of the Week, the league announced.
 
Martin hit .545 in the three-game series against UIC. She had three hits in the series opener, including an RBI and a stolen base, and continued her hot streak into game two, where she went one for three at the plate with a double, two RBI, and one walk. The Indian Hills transfer finished her weekend strong in the final game of the series with two base hits, including a double and two more RBI.
 
Martin's five-RBI, six-hit weekend helped the Bulldogs secure a series victory on the road over the Flames. She also finished with a .583 on-base percentage and a .727 slugging percentage. Martin, a Lamoni, Iowa native, is fifth on the Bulldogs in OPS, sixth in batting average, fifth in slugging percentage, and tied for first in walks.
 
Drake will turn around for a mid-week clash against Iowa State tomorrow, the Bulldogs' final non-conference game of the season, before hosting Belmont this weekend in the regular season finale.
