The Basics
The Bulldogs will compete in the MAAC championship on Sunday, May 19, beginning at 1:50 p.m. The race will occur in Cooper River Park in Pennsauken Township, NJ, and Drake will race two varsity eights and one varsity four.
Head Coach Charlie DiSilvestro on the Race
"We know the competition we're up against and the format is a seven-boat final, so we have to be ready to go from the first stroke to the last stroke, and they are ready. They understand what they're doing. We've had enough of these races this year where they had to race hard from the beginning because they didn't have a heat. They're ready for it, they're rested, and they're fired up and ready to go."
The Championship Scoring
Racing begins at 1:50 p.m. and the awards ceremony caps off the event at 3:00 p.m. Points are allotted based on the order in which the boats finish, and the school with the most points after all the races wins the MAAC Championship.
DiSilvestro on the Team's Preparation
"We had a nice practice Friday and today. We'll get out on the water one more time tomorrow morning before the afternoon final, which is good because our river's been flooded and we haven't been able to row since May four. But for now, they've had really good water time out here; their spirits are high."
Participating Schools
Canisius, Drake, Fairfield, Jacksonville, Marist, Sacred Heart and Stetson will be competing tomorrow.
DiSilvestro on the Bulldog Seniors
"We're really excited to send out senior off with a great finish to a great career. We'll be pulling hard for our seniors tomorrow."
