ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Drake University Track and Field team doubled up again to take both men's and women's Field Athlete of the Week Awards.
Anthony Barmes and
Centaine Noom-Duckworth won those respective honors after competing at the 114th Drake Relays last weekend.
Barmes had a top hammer throw of 69.28m/227'-3", four throws over 68m, and two over 69m to finish in 7th place in the WACT Invitational Hammer Throw section. The New Zealander competed amongst professionals at the Drake Relays and beat an Olympian in the field. Barmes was first in MVC by nearly 9m/30ft, 13th in the NCAA, 10th in the West Qualifying List, fourth in the Midwest Region, and fourth all-time in New Zealand.
Noom-Duckworth had a personal record hammer throw of 62.21m/204' 1", four throws over 59m, and two over 60m in the Drake Relays. She was the runner-up at the Drake Relays Open Hammer section, which was the highest-ever finish for a Drake women's hammer thrower at the Relays. She was first in MVC by 2m/6ft, 10th in the Midwest Region, 19th in the West Qualifying List, 35th in the NCAA, and seventh all-time New Zealand.
The Bulldogs will compete at the Iowa State Alumni Open this weekend before traveling to Terre Haute for the 2024 MVC Championships.
