Drake Women's Soccer Tallies Draw with Green Bay

Blakey scores again as Bulldogs move to 0-4-4 on the year

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's soccer team added another draw to its record after a 1-1 finish versus the Green Bay Phoenix on Thursday afternoon from Mediacom Stadium. The Bulldogs now have a record of 0-4-4 through their first eight contest of the season.

Green Bay was the first team to put a tally on the scoreboard in Thursdays match with Senah Hanes finding the back of the net in the 12th minute of action. Hanes was assisted on her goal by Hanna Arvay.

It didn't take long for the Bulldogs to collect an equalizer, however. Just six minutes after Green Bay's goal, junior forward Eve Blakey took the ball off a Zoey Mahoney throw-in and sent a shot well beyond the 18-yard box into the back of the net knotting the match up at 1-1. Blakey's goal marked her second in as many games.

The score of 1-1 remained for the rest of the first half and held over into the second half as the full 90 minutes eventually expired without either team scoring over the course of the second 45 minutes of play.

Drake out-shot the Phoenix in the match 12-8 and had the advantage in shots on goal as well at 5-4. In goal for the Bulldogs, Kate Hopma made two saves and Addie Ford made one on the day.

Drake has one more non-conference match in Des Moines this week with Western Illinois (Sep. 15) before it hosts Missouri State (Sep. 19) for the beginning of MVC play. Sunday's home bout with WIU will also mark the Senior Day celebration for the Bulldogs.
