MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Drake men's golf team wrapped up play in its second event of the season on Tuesday afternoon after three rounds of play at the Wildcat Invitational. The Bulldogs ended up in eighth place out of the 15-team field with a finishing score of 905 (299-296-310=905).
Drake had a pair of golfers place in the top-20 on the leaderboard in
Jack Dumas and
Jake Weissenburger. Dumas had the best finish in the Bulldog lineup as he tied for 13th carding rounds of 74-70-76 for a total of 220. The senior's second round score of 2-under, 70 was the lowest round shot by a Bulldog over the course of the tournament. Weissenburger ended play tied for 20th after rounds of 74-72-76, which was good for a 222 total.
Senior
Nikko Ganas was next on the leaderboard for Drake as he tied for 41st. Ganas fired rounds of 73-76-80 in route to 229 final score. Meanwhile,
Dylan Drogemuller had a consist showing with rounds of 78-79-78 tying for 57th at 235 and
Sam Johnson rounded out the Bulldog lineup tied for 64th at 239 (80-78-81).
"Unfortunately, we struggled today after a solid first day," Drake head coach
Matt Lewis said. "We had too many big numbers and had a tough time getting putts to drop. Overall, we can take away many positives from this tournament. Jack [Dumas] and Jake [Weissenburger] had a good tournament leading us in scoring. We are looking forward to hosting the Zach Johnson Invitational this next week."
Host team Kansas State won the team title with final score of 850 (285-282-283). K-State's Nick Mason also won the individual title at 205 (65-71-69).
The Bulldogs will make their way back to Des Moines for their next event as they play host for the Zach Johnson Invitational. The tournament will be held at Glen Oaks Country Club Sep. 23-24.
