ST. LOUIS, Mo. –
Alanna Pennington of Drake women's soccer was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday morning.
The local product from Ankeny, Iowa, played a major role in the Bulldogs' 3-0 win this past Sunday over Indiana State. Pennington bolstered the Drake backline against the Sycamore attack, which ranks as one of the more potent offenses in the league, and did not allow Indiana State to record a single shot in the entire match. The junior played 89 of a possible 90 minutes in the match only being subbed out in the final minute. This is the second Defensive Player of the Week honor for Pennington this season.
The Bulldogs will be back on the pitch for a road contest against UIC on Saturday, October 11. Kickoff against the Flames is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
