The Basics
Drake women's tennis will be back at home this week for a pair of non-conference matchups against Chicago State (Mar. 12) and Omaha (Mar. 13). The Bulldogs will be looking to build their record up after picking up their first win of the season against Marquette to close out February.
 
Bulldog Breakdown
Drake earned its first win of the year on Feb. 28 when the Golden Eagles came to town. The Bulldogs and Golden Eagles split their six singles matches as Drake's doubles win secured the match victory.
 
Drake's young roster shined in its win over Marquette. Freshmen Jessica Popiol, Shiori Takeda, and Jana Ruzic each won their respective singles bouts while Popiol and Takeda teamed up for a doubles victory. Popiol was named MVC Singles Player of the Week for her efforts.
 
Scouting the Competition
Chicago State will visit Des Moines for a double-header on Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars are currently 0-4 this season and have not recorded a single team point yet this year. Most recently, Chicago State dropped a 7-0 result to Western Illinois.
 
Omaha is 6-8 so far this spring with two of those wins coming in its most recent tilts. The Mavericks recently disposed of Bradley and South Dakota in back-to-back home matches. Omaha will be seeking its first road win of the year on Thursday when they travel to Des Moines.
 
Up Next
The Bulldogs will head west for a pair of contests in the Golden State of California. Drake is scheduled to take on Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton on Mar. 18 and 19, respectively.
