DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake women's tennis was back on the court this evening for a Thursday night throwdown against Omaha. The Bulldogs battled all night, but Omaha left Des Moines with a 5-2 win, ending Drake's 3-match winning streak.
 
The night started with doubles play as both teams picked up a tandem win. Elizabete Klavinska and Tess Caldicott earned a victory in the No. 1 spot, but Omaha's Summer Shannon and Keegan VanPelt broke the stalemate at No. 2 to go up 1-0 in the match.
 
The Mavericks proceeded to win the first two singles bouts before Jana Ruzic finally got the Dogs on the board. Ruzic deposited VanPelt in straight sets to make the team score 3-1 in favor of the visitors.
 
Shiori Takeda eventually won her match over Omaha's Katelynn Kock at No. 4, but her triumph was too late as the Mavericks held on to a safe lead. Omaha went on to win the match by a 5-2 margin.
 
Drake will travel to California next week for its next two matches. The Bulldogs' trip to the Golden State is set to start at Long Beach State (Mar. 18) and wrap up with a visit to Cal State Fullerton (Mar. 19).
