INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Another day, another honor for
Bennett Stirtz as he was named an honorable mention All-American by the U.S Basketball Writers Association on Wednesday.
The junior has made a name for himself in his first year at Drake becoming the Larry Bird Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year among many other honors. The Liberty, Mo., native is the first player in Drake school history to collect 500 points and 150 assists in the same season. He enters the NCAA Tournament ranked tied for sixth on the school-single season scoring list (631) and No. 3 on the school single-season assists chart (188). Stirtz led the Bulldogs to their third-straight MVC Tournament title earlier this month where he scored 24 points in both the semifinal round and championship game against Belmont and Bradley, respectively.
The 11-seed Bulldogs will play 6-seed Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Wichita, Kansas on Thursday, March 20. Tipoff is slated for 6:35 pm CT on truTv.
