DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake women's tennis team took on Bradley at the Braves' home court on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs battled in singles play but could not outplay Bradley as the hosts earned a 4-3 decision.
Bradley (2-12, 1-1) started the day by picking up the doubles point. Anna Belogliadova and Madi Rogers took down Drake's
Jessica Popiol and
Elizabete Klavinska in the top spot while Mariia Pukhina combined her talents with Ruby Tseng to defeat
Jana Ruzic and
Shiori Takeda.
Ruzic and Takeda led the charge in for Drake when the match flipped to singles action. Ruzic swept Rogers in the No. 5 position while Takeda got a gritty 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win over Tseng at No. 3.
Nicole Lee was uncontested as the No. 6 singles player to grab Drake's third point.
The Bulldogs faltered elsewhere in the lineup as Bradley did enough to squeak by with their 4-3 victory.
Drake will remain in central Illinois for another road match tomorrow. The Dogs will take on rival Illinois State at 10 a.m. in Normal.
