CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Drake University track and field team had a solid start to the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday. The Bulldogs celebrated one individual title and a handful of other podium finishes in Carbondale.
Tyla Lumley got the Bulldogs going with a bang, winning the first event on the track. Lumley capture the Valley crown in the women's 10,000m with a time of 35:52.37. Fellow Bulldog
Anastasia Kirillov took runner-up honors in 36:06.58 while
Chiara Belfico finished seventh in 38:29.80.
Aziz Jdai capped the day with another podium finish in the distance races. Jdai ran 8:56.82 in the men's 3000m steeplechase to earn the silver medal.
Brendan Cain was sixth in the steeplechase in 9:08.15.
Aidan Palmer added another top eight finish in the men's 10k with a pace of 31:23.30.
Away from the track,
Lara Smits and
Adam Phillips both earned third-placed finishes in the women's and men's discus, respectively. Smits tossed 47.03m/154-4 while Phillips threw his disc 51.59m/169-3.
Zofia Landowska (5.45m/17-10.75) and Chrisotpher Norris (52.95m/173-9) each finished ninth in the women's long jump and men's javelin, respectively.
The 2025 MVC Outdoor Championships will conclude tomorrow with a loaded lineup of field event and track finals starting at 9 a.m.
