LINCOLN, Neb. – The Drake University track and field team made the brief trip to Nebraska for a 2-day stint at the Big Red Classic. The Bulldogs were scattered across various leaderboards with a few highlight performances.
Centaine Noom-Duckworth, the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, won the women's hammer throw with a mark of 61.43m/201-6.
Vaughn Larson and
Avery Littlejohn both earned runner-up status in the men's steeplechase and women's 400, respectively. Larson maneuvered the barriers to a 9:57.23 while Littlejohn finished in 1:01.25.
The women's 4x100m relay added another second-place result as Josilyn Dufoe,
Emily Heitzman,
Favor Omoijuanfo, and
Denae McElrath combined for a 48.95. Drake's men's 4x100 group of
Garrett Frizell,
Josiah Rainey,
Xavier Baldwin, and
Khalil Kaba took third in 43.09.
Omoijuanfo added a fourth-place finish in the women's 100m dash (12.50) and fifth-place result in the women's 200m dash (25.87). McElrath was just in front of Omoijuanfo in both races with a 12.42 time in the 100 and 25.79 in the 200. Dufoe earned another top five finish with a 15.13 effort in the women's 100m hurdles.
Elsewhere,
Emma Nau crossed the line in 15.05 in to take fourth in the 100 hurdles while
Marieli Estrello ran a third-place 25.05 in the 200.
Frizell added a 10.93 100m dash time, good enough for fourth place, while Rainey finished third in the men's 200 (21.79), and Kaba earned the same placement in the 110m hurdles.
Jed Wilson doubled up with a pair of fifth place marks in the men's 1500 (4:05.42) and 800 (2:02.31).
Aidan Simon and
Gaven Corpin beat Wilson in those two respective races with times of 3:59.41 and 2:01.26.
Dylan DeAngelo added another top three finish with a 55.54 lap in the men's 400m hurdles.
Berkley Munnings was fourth in that same field with a time of 56.08.
The Bulldogs' men's highlights were rounded out by
Xavier Baldwin with a fifth-place finish in the 100m dash (11.03) and
Drake Dombrosky in the 400 (48.89).
Drake will be back in action next week with another home meet, this time in global fashion. The Bulldogs will be competing in the 116th Drake Relays from April 22-25.
