ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake seniors
Sean Allison and
Brett Welsing were the Bulldogs' only two representatives on the 2025 Preseason All-Pioneer Football League Team, the conference announced today.
Allison, a linebacker hailing from Hinsdale, Ill., returns as a 2024 All-PFL Second Team selection and adds the official PFL preseason honor to the same recognition from college football analyst Phil Steele. Allison tallied 105 total tackles last season, the second-most on the team, with 5.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks plus an interception and two quarterback hurries.
Welsing begins his senior season with a worthy honor after playing all 11 games in 2024 as a key member of Drake's special teams battery. Welsing was a PFL All-Academic honoree and made the 2024 All-PFL First Team.
The league presented its Preseason Coaches' Poll on Monday, with San Diego picked as the preseason favorite, followed by Drake and St. Thomas.
Presbyterian College junior wide receiver Dominic Kibby is one of seven returning First Team All-PFL selections to highlight the 2025 Pioneer Football League Preseason Team, announced Tuesday.
Kibby, who is a two-time First Team All-PFL honoree, returns with 95 receptions and 1,479 receiving yards to his credit in his first two seasons with the Blue Hose. He was joined on the preseason team by a pair of teammates: graduate student wide receiver Cincere Gill and sophomore quarterback Collin Hurst. Presbyterian also has returning First Team All-PFL selections in defensive lineman Carter Szydiowski, defensive back Caleb Francis, and return specialist Zach Switzer.
There are three other returning 2024 First Team All-PFL selections on the preseason squad. Davidson running back Mari Adams and fullback Mason Sheron as well as Marist offensive lineman Dominic Perricone. In addition, both of the PFL's 2024 Freshmen of the Year return in Hurst and Marist linebacker James Kratochvil.
The upcoming 2025 season marks the 33rd year of the Pioneer Football League. The league will feature 11 teams, each playing an eight-game schedule to determine the league champion and recipient of the automatic bid to the NCAA FCS Championship. The 2025 schedule gets underway Thursday, August 28, with Dayton, Drake, and St. Thomas set to kick off on opening night. Marist opens its season on Friday, August 29, followed by the league's remaining seven teams on Saturday, August 30.
