Bulldogs Fall On The Road At Bradley

Drake moves to 8-8 overall and 2-3 in Valley play

PEORIA, Ill. – The Drake men's basketball team fell on the road to the Bradley Braves, 93-66, on Wednesday night from Carver Arena.

A turnaround jumper in the paint from Jaehshon Thomas continued an early trend of traded buckets by the Bulldogs and the Braves and put Drake ahead by one, 7-6 in the early goings. The following four minutes of action, however, were all in favor of Bradley as the Braves went on a 12-0 run, which forced a timeout from the Drake bench at the 11:20 mark.

The scoreless drought finally came to an end for Drake on a pair of free throws by Andrew Alia at the 8:32 mark. On the next possession for the Bulldogs, the redshirt junior drained his second triple of the game to trim the deficit down to 23-12.

The shooting woes continued for the Bulldogs for the remainder of the period with Drake shooting just 25-percent (6-24) from the floor and at the halftime break Bradley led, 40-19.

The second half opened with a 15-0 blitz by the Braves as the Bulldogs missed their first five shots until Alia connected on another long ball.

Bradley's lead then extended out to as much as 40 and Drake came as close as 24 down the stretch.

"Sometimes you have to face reality and it sets in sometimes," Drake head coach Eric Henderson said. "There were certainly steps backwards and that's the way it is going to be sometimes. That's what it was tonight. I liked our energy early, honestly, we had a little fight and then we just missed a couple plays offensively. It just filtered away after that. Offense was really hard for us in the first half and that dictated our defense, which led to easy baskets. We just weren't mentally tough enough to stay engaged."

Thomas collected 18 points, which led the Bulldogs, and extended his streak of double-digit point totals to four games since league play started. Alia chipped in with 12 points and added six rebounds, while Jalen Quinn was the final Bulldog to reach double figures with 11.

Drake is back at home for its next contest on Saturday, Jan. 10 against the Belmont Bruins. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. with the game available to stream on ESPN+.
