ST. LOUIS, Mo. —
Zoey Mahoney was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. This marks the third Defensive Player of the Week honor for Mahoney this season.
Mahoney was instrumental in the Bulldogs' 1-0 victory over Belmont this past Sunday to give Drake its eighth shutout of the year. The senior scored the lone goal in the contest converting a penalty attempt for her third goal of the season. Mahoney's three goals this season have her tied for the third most on the team and are the most goals she has ever scored in a season for her career. The Waukee, Iowa product led the Drake defensive backline holding the Bruins to just three shots on net as well. Mahoney logged 157 minutes of a possible 180 as a mainstay on the pitch over Drake's two matches against Belmont and Murray State last week.
Mahoney and the Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend with a road contest at Southern Illinois on Sunday, Oct. 25. Kickoff against the Saluki's is scheduled for 1 p.m.
