Women's Tennis Preview: St. Thomas & Minnesota

Bulldogs to battle Tommies, Gophers in Twin Cities tilts

The Basics
Drake women's tennis will head north to the Land of 10,000 Lakes for a pair of non-conference bouts this weekend. The Bulldogs are set for matches against St. Thomas (Feb. 14) and Minnesota (Feb. 15) in the Twin Cities.

Bulldog Breakdown
The Bulldogs finally got off their 0-for-4 skid to start the year with a 4-3 victory over Kansas City last Sunday. Drake is now 1-4 on the year with all five matches resulting in 4-3 tallies.

Maja Dodik was named Missouri Valley Conference Singles Player of the Year for her efforts against the Roos. She helped Drake to its first win of the season by beginning the week with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 win over Creighton's Sophie Schwartz. She followed that performance with 7-6(7-5), 6-2 win over Kansas City's Amal Gati. Her victory over Gati secured the Bulldogs' 4-3 win over the Roos on Sunday afternoon.

Scouting St. Thomas
The Tommies are 2-1 so far on the 2026 season. They opened spring play with a loss at Iowa State before picking up two 4-3 triumphs over Western Illinois and Bradley on the road.

Drake and St. Thomas have met just once before with the Bulldogs earning a 6-1 win in 2023. The Bulldogs are looking for their second win on the road at UST with the 2023 result coming in Minneapolis.

Scouting Minnesota
Minnesota has had a blazing start to the spring campaign with an undefeated 6-0 record under its belt. The Gophers opened with a 5-2 win over Iowa State before rolling by North Dakota, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, and Wyoming. They battled through their most recent bout to a 4-3 win over Colorado State. Minnesota will host Alabama on Feb. 14 before welcoming Drake and Colorado to Minneapolis on Sunday.

The Bulldogs are still hunting their first ever win over Minnesota. The Golden Gophers are 8-0 all-time against Drake including the most recent meeting in 2023.

Up Next
Drake will return to Des Moines to start a 5-match homestand on Feb. 20 vs. Chicago State. Saint Louis then visits the Roger Knapp Tennis Center later in the weekend on Feb. 22.
