RIVERSIDE, Iowa – The Drake men's golf team ended its time at the Hawkeye Invitational from Blue Top Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday in a tie for fifth place among 14 teams. The Bulldogs tied with South Dakota State firing a 54-hole total of 878 (292-290-296).
The University of Iowa claimed team title honors at 851 (287-278-286) besting fellow Missouri Valley Conference member Southern Illinois by six shots.
The Bulldogs had four of its five competitors place inside the top-25 on the individual leaderboard.
Nate Spear led the bunch tying for 16th with a final score of 218. Spear was consistent in his outing firing back-to-back rounds of even par, 72 to begin his tournament and ended with a final round of 2-over, 74.
The trio of
Luke Bohmer,
Sam Johnson, and
Jake Weissenburger all finished one shot behind each other in subsequent order. Bohmer, a freshman, carded a 54-hole total of 219 (75-73-71) making improvements each round and tied for 18th. Johnson went on to shoot a 220 (70-72-78) total score after an opening round 2-under, 70 which was the low round of the tournament for the Bulldogs and tied for 20th. Meanwhile, Weissenburger ended in a tie for 23rd at 221 (75-73-73).
Dylan Drogemuller closed out the Drake lineup tying for 57th with his total score of 230 (76-75-79).
Iowa's Ryan Shellberg was the top individual at 10-under, 206 (66-65-75).
It's now on to the MVC Championship for Drake which will take place from Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Illinois, April 26-28.
