TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – It was another pitcher's duel on the diamond between the Drake Bulldogs and Indiana State Sycamores on Sunday afternoon from Price Field with the game going well into extras, but the Sycamores came away with another 1-0 victory in an 11-inning affair.
The Bulldogs went back to
Jayme Scheck, who picked up the win in game one of yesterday's doubleheader, while Indiana State called upon Megan Asher again, who got the win in game two yesterday. The pair matched each other pitch-for-pitch all game long and stifled the offenses to a 0-0 tie at the end of seven innings.
Scheck and her counterpart Asher each held the opposing team to just three hits after seven innings of play and continued to perform well when the contest went into extras. It was Asher, however, that would get the win added to her season total.
Much like how game two ended yesterday, the Sycamores began their half of the 11th inning with a single by Bella Pusateri. Following a walk drawn by Morgan Goodrich, Indiana State placed two runners on, and they both moved into scoring position after a wild pitch.
Madison Poulson then made the most of her opportunity with a hard hit single that the Bulldog defense couldn't corral which provided the walk-off winner.
Scheck finished her outing tossing 10.1 innings with five hits, one run, six strikeouts and three walks. Asher for Indiana State went all 11 innings with four hits allowed, four strikeouts and no walks.
Tatum Aragon had the best day at the plate for Drake collecting two of the four team hits, one being a double.
Ava Husak and
Pearson Hall were the other two Bulldogs with base knocks on the day.
Drake will return home for the final week of the regular season with a four-game homestand. The Bulldogs will first host Iowa State on Wednesday, April 29 and then welcome Murray State for a conference series, May 1-2.
