The Drake women's tennis team returns to the court this weekend as it rolls along with conference play against in-state rival UNI for a match from Cedar Falls on Sunday, April 5.
Bulldog Breakdown
The Bulldogs kicked off their conference slate last weekend on the road at Murray State and Belmont and split the matches, falling to the Racers, 4-3, but bouncing back against the Bruins with a 6-1 victory. Drake comes into its clash with UNI with an overall record of 6-9.
Maja Dodik had a strong showing for the Bulldogs against the Racers and Bruins winning three out of four matches across her singles and doubles performances. Dodik played in the No. 1 position all weekend and went 2-0 in singles competitions defeating Valeria Chaikovskaia from Murray (6-1, 6-2) and Savannah Webster from Belmont by scores of 6-7(2-7), 6-2, 6-4.
Scouting UNI
The Panthers also begin their conference slate against Murray State and Belmont last weekend but dropped both contests. UNI was bested by the Bruins, 6-1, and followed with a 5-2 loss to the Racers. UNI carries an overall record of 2-11 with its two victories coming against Western Illinois on March 7 and Lindenwood on Jan. 30.
In the all-time series between Drake and UNI the Bulldogs lead by a margin of 17-6. The Panthers got the better of the Bulldogs in last season's meeting from Cedar Falls, 4-3, but Drake had won the previous six matchups.
Up Next
Drake will be back home for its next pair of matches when it hosts Illinois State and Bradley from the Roger Knapp Tennis Center, April 10-11. The Bulldogs will first go up against the Redbirds on Friday evening and then challenge the Braves on Saturday morning.
