    Offensive Assistant/Wide Receivers

Going into the 2020 season, former Drake standout quarterback Jeff Martin is entering his 25th year as an assistant coach at his alma mater. Martin is set for his second year coaching the Bulldogs' wide receivers after previously serving as the quarterbacks coach for 12 seasons. His first stint at Drake was serving as running backs coach under Chuck Shelton from 1982-85. Martin coached at Valley High School from 1986-1994.

A native of Des Moines, Martin graduated from Drake in 1977 as owner of five school records, including career pass completions and total offensive plays. Martin later coached quarterback Mike Piatkowski (2009-12) who set nearly every career passing mark in rewriting the Bulldogs’ record book and becoming one of the nation’s top passers.

Martin set a Missouri Valley Conference record for the longest pass completion in league history of 98 yards against New Mexico State in 1976. He earned his master’s degree from Northeast Missouri State in 1981. A longtime high school physical education teacher, including teaching at Valley starting in 1995, Martin retired from teaching in 2018

Martin and his wife, Deb, have a son, Matt, and a daughter, Jenny.
