Steve Flynn

Going into the 2020 campaign, Steve Flynn is set for his fourth season on the coaching staff of his alma mater. He currently oversees the Bulldogs’ tight ends and fullbacks after previous stints coaching the offensive line and assisting with wide receivers.

Flynn rejoined the Drake coaching staff for the 2019 season and coached the Bulldogs’ tight ends, including Devin Cates. Cates earned Pioneer Football League First Team honors after he led the team in receptions (51), yards (627) and receiving touchdowns (9).

Flynn returned to Drake for the 2015 and 2016 seasons after two years at Wabash College where he was the tight ends coach for 2013 and the assistant offensive line coach in 2014. He coached five all-conference honorees in two years and helped guide the Little Giants advance to the second-round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Football Playoffs.

Prior to his time at Wabash, Flynn’s first coaching position was at Drake when he was assistant offensive line coach and helped with the strength and conditioning program. He spent the 2012 season as an intern at Montana State University with former Drake head coach Rob Ash. He worked with the offensive line, daily practices and assisted with on-camp recruiting visits.

As a Drake student-athlete, Flynn was a three-year starter on the offensive line, earning Pioneer Football League All-Conference honors in 2010 and 2011. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration in Dec. 2011.
