Taryn Pena is in her first season in 2020 as a volunteer assistant coach with the Drake softball program after playing four seasons (2016-2019) for the Bulldogs. Pena is an elementary education for the Des Moines Public Schools District.

Pena was a two-time All-MVC First Team honoree who tallied 156 career hits and finished her senior season in second-place all-time with 120 total RBI. Pena drew 113 walks in four seasons, which is also second in Drake program history. Her 42 career doubles is tied with three others for the program's all-time mark.

Off the field, Pena was a two-time MVC Scholar Athlete First Team member and graduated with a degree in elementary education.

In high school, Pena was a three-sport athlete at Columbia High School in Colombia, Ill. where she played softball, basketball and volleyball. In her senior year, Pena received all-conference and all-state honors in softball. As a junior, Pena led her team to a conference championship and the Illinois state tournament's Elite 8.
